JOINT ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (MAIN) – JEE (MAIN) (EARLIER AIEEE)

Admission criteria to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), Institutions funded by participating State Governments, and other Institutions shall include the performance in the class 12/equivalent qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main). The Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.

The States of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Nagaland and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State Level Examination, are also advised to take the JEE (Main).

ELIGIBILITY

Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in the earlier two years; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in the current year are eligible to appear in JEE (Main).

Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th/ qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE (Main). The candidates who have taken four subjects are not permitted to write JEE (Main).

The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be limited to 03 (three).

RESERVATIONS

As per Government of India rules candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed criteria. These categories are:

  • Other Backward Classes (OBC) if they belong to Non Creamy Layer (NCL)
  • Scheduled Castes (SC)
  • Scheduled Tribes (ST)
  • Persons with Disability (PwD)

Benefit of reservation for admission to NITs/IIITs and CFTIs shall be given only to those classes/castes/tribes which are in the respective central list published by the Govt of India. For admission to State Engineering colleges who have opted for admission through JEE (Main), the reservation rules of that state shall apply.

JOINT ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (ADVANCED) – JEE (ADVANCED) (EARLIER IIT-JEE)

The Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) will be conducted by seven zonal IITs (under the directives of the Joint Admission Board) for admission to the undergraduate programmes in all IITs and ISM Dhanbad.

JEE(ADVANCED) is a science oriented entrance exam, testing candidate’s knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry. Admission is very competitive since the entrance exam is generally considered tough and also because of the very high number of test takers.

A certain number (based on the seats available in all IITs and ISM Dhanbad) of successful candidates (Indian and foreign nationals) above a certain All India Rank (AIR) in JEE(Advanced) will be offered admission.

ELIGIBILITY

Only the top 150000 candidates (including all categories) based on their scores in Paper-1 of JEE (Main)-2014 will be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced)-2014.

RESERVATIONS

Distribution of top 1, 50,000 candidates across various categories in the merit list of JEE (Main)-2014 are as follows:

  • Top 75750 (50.5%) from the common merit list (CML)
  • Top 40500 (27%) from Other Backward Classes-Non creamy layer OBC(NCL)
  • Top 22500 (15%) from Scheduled Caste(SC)

BITS ADMISSION TEST (BITSAT)

BITS administers the all-India computerised competitive entrance examination, BITSAT (BITS Admission Test), the first of its kind in the country. Every year , approximately 150000 students take BITSAT for 4,000 seats at the institute (60 students per seat). Its acceptance rate was less than 2.94% in 2012, making it India’s most selective university. Admission is merit-based, as assessed by the BITSAT examination.

ELIGIBILITY

For admission to any of the Integrated First Degree Programmes, candidates should have passed the 12th class examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Further the candidate should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in 12th examination, at least 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects and should have adequate proficiency in English.

Only Students who are appearing for 12th examination in current year or who have passed 12th Examination last year are eligible to appear in the BITSAT test.If a candidate has taken more than one attempt in 12th class or its equivalent, only his latest performance is considered, provided this attempt has been for the full component of subjects/courses prescribed.

DIRECT ADMISSION TO BOARD TOPPERS

First rank students of all the central and state boards in India for the current year will be given direct admission to the program of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT score as per the eligibility criteria.

RESERVATIONS

Admissions will be made purely on merit. The merit position of the candidate for admission will be based on the score obtained by the candidate in the BITSAT. However, their eligibility for admission is subject to fulfilling the requirement of minimum marks in 12th examination, as mentioned above.

AMRITA ENGINEERING ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (AEEE)

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is conducting its Engineering Entrance Examination every year on an all India basis for admission to the 4 year B.Tech. Degree programmes offered in the three campuses at Amritapuri (Kollam), Bengaluru and Ettimadai (Coimbatore). Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria will be admitted to the first year of B.Tech.programs.

ELIGIBILITY

A pass in 10+2 ( class XII ) or its equivalent or Students who are appearing for 12th examination in current year securing an aggregate of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with not less than 55% of marks in each of the three subjects are eligible to appear in the AEEE.

VELLORE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (VITEEE)

VIT University conducts an entrance exam every year called VITEEE for admission to its B.Tech programs.

ELIGIBILITY

Candidates appearing for the VITEEE in should have secured an aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology in the qualifying examination (+2/Intermediate).The average marks obtained in the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology (PCM / PCB) in +2 (or its equivalent) put together should be 50% for candidates belonging to SC/ST, candidates hailing from Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY ENGINEERING ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (AMUEEE)

For admissions in various undergraduate engineering courses, the Aligarh Muslim University organizes AMU Engineering Entrance Exam (AMU EEE) every year.

ELIGIBILITY

Class XII (or other qualifying exam) recognized by state board passed with minimum aggregate of 50% in Mathematics, English, Chemistry and Physics.

RESERVATIONS

According to the norms, Muslim students will have 50% seats reserved for them. No other reservation for admission in various courses for any category exists in AMUEEE.

ALL INDIA MANIPAL UNIVERSITY ONLINE ENTRANCE TEST (MU-OET)

Admissions for B.Tech are done on the basis of rank in the All India Manipal University Online Entrance Test.

ELIGIBILITY

Pass in 10+2, A Level, IB, American 12th grade or equivalent with Physics, Mathematics and English as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry or Biotechnology or Biology as optional subjects and a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Mathematics and any one of the optional subjects.
